Description of the academic program of the pharmacognosy branch

The description of the academic program for the branch of pharmacognosy at the college of pharmacy includes a mention of the most important features and characteristics of the program used in teaching students of the second and third stages according to the subject, as well as an explanation of the learning outcomes that the student hopes to enjoy and achieve, based on the available evidence that proves that the student has benefited from all. To graduate pharmacists who have sufficient knowledge about the importance of products derived from natural plants in the field of biomedicine and to evaluate the effective components of plants.
Academic program goals

 .Applying basic knowledge in the field of pharmacognosy to qualify the pharmaceutical staff and enable them to apply this knowledge on the practical level

Students’ familiarity with the different types of medicinal plants and their study in terms of classification, shape, active ingredients, pharmacological effects, and their synthesis within the plant

 Introducing students to the importance of products derived from natural plants in the field of biomedicine

 Evaluation of the active components of plants and use of extraction methods and separation of materials in a pure form using different types of modern techniques and plant tissue culture as well as medicinal and poisonous plants in Iraq

Methods used in teaching and learning
Theoretical lectures given by teachers of subjects in medical drugs, in which students are provided with ready-made scientific information.
Specialized discussion lectures and homework in the field of drugs that give students the important role in searching for scientific information.
Practical lectures in the drug laboratory, which divide the students into subgroups and teach them how to properly deal with chemicals and ةvarious glassware, and gain experience in methods of isolating and purifying the active substances found in plants.
